Ricci was one of the four kids born to Sarah Murdoch and Ralph Ricci in Santa Monica, California. Her mother was model for the Ford Agency model in the 1960s, and later became a real-estate agent. Her father was an attorney, and she was known as a primal-scream therapy. Ricci said that her Italian origins were the result due to her last name. Two Italians got married to an Irish woman four or five generations ago. All their sons were born. More children were born and many Irish wives married. Ricci was able to move from Italy to Montclair from Italy with her family. In Montclair, she was a student at Edgemont Elementary School, Glenfield Middle School, Montclair High School, Montclair High School, Morristown-Beard School, and Montclair High School. She later attended Montclair High School, which is the Professional Children's School of New York City.
